The Magnificent Green Sea Turtle

The scientific name of the green sea turtle is Chelonia mydas. It is also known as the Pacific green turtle or the black sea turtle.

Green sea turtles are found in tropical and subtropical coastal waters around the world. They inhabit areas with seagrass beds, coral reefs, and rocky bottoms where they can find food and shelter.

Green sea turtles are herbivores, primarily feeding on seagrasses and algae. They play a crucial role in maintaining the health of seagrass beds by grazing on them, which promotes new growth and provides habitat for other marine species.

Female green sea turtles return to the beaches where they were born to lay their eggs. They dig nests in the sand and deposit their eggs before covering them and returning to the sea.
